Company Description
In 1804, Leonardo SAUVANET, came Mason Creuse and Companion of the Tour de France, settled in Nièvre and becomes stonemason. He married in 1817 to Suilly La Tour. And it was in 1848, his son Etienne Sauvanet, stonecutter, plant a Calvary on the village square of Champcelée and settled in a house that his descendants have never left.
Since the early nineteenth century until today, the quarrymen and careers have followed to make their operation it is today:
* Leonard, Stephen Francis, Alexander Sauvanet: Career of Moussets Pont Perret and the Career Suilly to the Tower in 1815, closed today
* Julien Sauvanet: Orchard Career at Champcelée in 1922, still in business
* Adrian, André Maurice Sauvanet: Malvaux-Garchy Career at Garchy in 1954, still in business
* Pierre and Claude Sauvanet projected operating the Company purchased career for nearly 50 years.
Each of them brought his stone to the building. They managed to get their business from a small-scale to the industrial stage. However, it seems to be Julien Sauvanet who gave a fundamental impulse to the expansion of the business. Stonemason graduate of Fine Arts, he modernized his case on his return from the Great War. In the 1920s, it uses the energy of a steam engine, burning waste wood for sawing stone and naturally created a sawmill wood, next to the stone mill. With the electrification of the Nohain Valley in 1926 Pierre de Verger quarry becomes the first industrial installation of this valley electrified. Before World War II, a tractor and a truck have already replaced the twelve horses in his service in the 20s.
