United States from Sicily. In 1922 he opened up Rye Monument Works Inc. opposite Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, New York. He serviced the community with memorials and monuments from his small office. Ironically the italian translation of DiPietro means "of rock." A master craftsmen, Dominick fabricated and carved monuments by and with hammers and chisels, then erected them in the cemetery with a team of ox. Following the great depression as business really started to pick up Dominick decided to build a factory on his property. He even moved the original building 50 feet of the road to where it still stands today. Retiring at 50, Dominick s son Sebastian "Barney" DiPietro took over as president of Rye Monument Works. As Barney grew older his two sons Ted and Doug took control of the company. In 1987 the two brothers founded Rye Marble Inc. Rye Marble is Westchester county"s original natural stone fabrication shop. Rye Marble not only fabricates custom stone countertops, but also sells tile, and restores existing natural stone as well. Rye Marble stands today as New York s premier source for natural and man made stone countertops.
