Company Description
It was in 1870 that Ibrahim Balboul started excavating and cutting sandstone from his Beirut quarry at the Ramlet-el-Baida area. He soon included marble in his activities by importing slabs from Italy which were then cut to be used as balconies, tiles & columns, many of which can still be seen in the old Beirut houses. All the work was done by hand with basic tools at the quarry, until the mid 1920's when the first factory was established in Sanayeh area. A newer factory was established in Ashrafieh-Sassine in the early 1940's, where marble limestone and cement products were manufactured. In the late 1940's the company moved to Tallet El-Khayat. Balboul & Abou-Khalil was established in 1951 in Mar Elias Betina to produce marble, limestone, terrazzo, & all kinds of cement products. As the Lebanese construction market boomed during the 1960's, the demand for marble sky rocketed. Balboul & Abou Khalil had to grow. Therefore, a large sawmill was established in Batroun, north of Lebanon in 1969 on a 30,000 sqm land. Both of our factories have been continuously growing, constantly updating technology & coordinating their work in order to fulfill our main objective : being big enough to cope with increasing demand & the largest projects at the best prices, & staying small enough to care about our customers personally, & have the time & ability to satisfy the smallest request.
